Fall Season/Halloween Home Decorations

 This year I was slow to decorate the house because the weather is not fall-like.  There has been no change in the weather.  No crisp fall days, no cool nights.  But In spite of the summer-like weather I wanted to get into the Fall / Halloween mood so I did decorate my living and dining room. I mixed the season and the holiday decorations and surprisingly it looks nice.

Here are a few photos of my coffee station and my china cabinet.  Both are located in the dining room.

 

This year I did shop online for a few things that would compliment my seasonal decorations. Amazon had Luminara Flameless LED Candles that had autumn leaves that were embedded in real wax.  The flame moved and the candles added a cozy ambiance to the décor in my living room.

 I also bought battery-operated orange lights from Big Lots.  I used these battery-operated lights to add soft color to my fall season wreath and the decorations that I put in my China cabinet. 

 

The tables were covered with seasonal linens that I bought at Zazzle.  The runner had a pumpkin and sunflower print on a white background and it was perfect on my buffet.

 

Know that I liked the way the Halloween and fall season decorations came together.  I did not utilize all of my decorations and think that less was more for this year.

This beautiful Victorian rose accent pillow was created from a photo that I found on a public domain website that had tapestry vintage wallpapers.  The website stated that the photos were of actual wallpaper that was found in Vintage Victorian homes that dated back to the 1890s. 

Many of the photographs were of poor quality and I suspect due to the age of the wallpaper the photos looked faded and there must have been creases in the wallpaper as they showed up in the swatch photo.

I searched through all of the photographs and found one Victorian rose tapestry that I did like.  It was nearly perfect and I did love the mauve-colored roses that spilled over a gold urn. There was also gold filigree that complemented the roses and the urn.  The design reminded me of a tapestry that could have hung in a grand home or castle.

Know that I did edit the photo to bring out the gold and mauve colors.  I also cut out vintage roses and added them to the photo.  The flowers were compressed into the photo and here is the finished pillow design.

Woodsy Winter Season Decor Ideas

 Woodsy tree branches added fragrance and ambiance to the décor of my home. The greenery and pine cones made us feel like we were at a cabin in the woods. Instead of buying winter centerpieces, you can make your own, here are some ideas. 

Instead of buying centerpieces and wall swags for the winter season, I created unique decorations with cuttings from evergreen cypress and balsam trees. I used a combination of branches along with pine cones to create wall-hanging displays and centerpieces.

I had fun putting the decorations together and really liked the way everything turned out. Fresh greenery was so much better than artificial. Know that the pine cones that I used were scented with cinnamon and a few were dipped in silver glitter.

Note After the winter holidays I removed anything that pertain to the holiday and left the greenery and pine cones up throughout the winter season.

Decorative Christmas Pattern Pillows

Decorating with Color: Blue and White

When it comes to decorating for the warm season I like to create a space that both my husband and I will enjoy.  The interior space should be eye-appealing and also have a cool feeling as well as inviting to family and guests.  Blue is a cool color and white is crisp clean and refreshing thus complimenting the blue.  Whenever I am working in the garden and then come indoors to a blue room that is accented with white I naturally feel cooler.

Many people like the color blue but I find that men really like this color. Maybe it is due to the baby boys nursery being decorated with the color blue? Not certain but when it comes to decorating a masculine home I have found that most men like the color blue.

Another color that coordinates well with blue is yellow. Yellow is a cheerful color and is a nice accent. When it comes to decorating a blue and white room I will add splashes of yellow color, enough to be eye-appealing but this color should not overtake the blue or white colors.
