Fall Season/Halloween Home Decorations

 This year I was slow to decorate the house because the weather is not fall-like.  There has been no change in the weather.  No crisp fall days, no cool nights.  But In spite of the summer-like weather I wanted to get into the Fall / Halloween mood so I did decorate my living and dining room. I mixed the season and the holiday decorations and surprisingly it looks nice.

Here are a few photos of my coffee station and my china cabinet.  Both are located in the dining room.

 

This year I did shop online for a few things that would compliment my seasonal decorations. Amazon had Luminara Flameless LED Candles that had autumn leaves that were embedded in real wax.  The flame moved and the candles added a cozy ambiance to the décor in my living room.

 I also bought battery-operated orange lights from Big Lots.  I used these battery-operated lights to add soft color to my fall season wreath and the decorations that I put in my China cabinet. 

 

The tables were covered with seasonal linens that I bought at Zazzle.  The runner had a pumpkin and sunflower print on a white background and it was perfect on my buffet.

 

Know that I liked the way the Halloween and fall season decorations came together.  I did not utilize all of my decorations and think that less was more for this year.

Recently while shopping at Zazzle.com I found an artesian from Spain who created art deco and nouveau vintage flower and bird ceramic tiles. These tiles would look stunning in the kitchen or bathroom. But you could also use them as an accent wall in an office and on the top of a table.

Shop for a side table at a yard or garage sale then update the look of it by adding ceramic tiles to the top.  This is a good way to update your space and I love this idea.  Here is a photo from my Ceramic Tile pinboard.

In the past, I would buy ceramic tiles to set on my bookshelf as an accent.  I liked the earthy appearance of the ceramic tile and thought it was a nice way to compliment my seasonal or holiday decorations.  But after finding these beautiful tilese at Zazzle.com  I am inspired to be creative. 

Another way to update your home with ceramic tiles is to add them to a staircase.

Benefits of Digital Invitations Vs Paper

 I don't normally write about stationery but thought I would talk about the benefits of digital invitations.  Many of my social media friends have been asking so here's what I think.  I really like digital invitations for birthday parties, business dinners, and baby and bridal showers. Digital invitations take the work out of planning a party.

How to Dry Hydrangea Flowers for Home Décor

 In the spring I was given a stunning Nikko Blue Hydrangea. The blooms were long-lived but when they started to fade, I decided to dry the flowers and use them to decorate my home.

 

I dried hydrangea flowers once before and it took the flowers approximately 3 weeks to dry fully.  

There are many ways to dry hydrangea flowers, I did the simple method of cutting a 3-inch stem along with the flower and then hanging the flowers so that they face the floor.  Dry the flowers in a room that is dry and the light is dim, with no direct sunlight.

 

Once the flowers are fully dried you would keep your hydrangea looking nice with hairspray as it will prevent the flower from falling apart.  

 

When it comes to decorating with dried hydrangea flowers know that you can add them to other dried flowers in an arrangement or create a bouquet of dried hydrangeas to use in a vase. 

 

You can also buy a floral tape or wire to attach the flower stems to a wreath or to add to a Christmas tree. 

Beautiful Victorian Rose Tapestry Accent Pillow

 Accent the décor of your living room or bedroom with a beautiful Victorian Rose Tapestry Pillow.  Buy this pillow for yourself or as a gift for that special someone.  You may personalize this pillow with your initial monogram or other text.

This beautiful Victorian rose accent pillow was created from a photo that I found on a public domain website that had tapestry vintage wallpapers.  The website stated that the photos were of actual wallpaper that was found in Vintage Victorian homes that dated back to the 1890s. 

Many of the photographs were of poor quality and I suspect due to the age of the wallpaper the photos looked faded and there must have been creases in the wallpaper as they showed up in the swatch photo.

I searched through all of the photographs and found one Victorian rose tapestry that I did like.  It was nearly perfect and I did love the mauve-colored roses that spilled over a gold urn. There was also gold filigree that complemented the roses and the urn.  The design reminded me of a tapestry that could have hung in a grand home or castle.

Know that I did edit the photo to bring out the gold and mauve colors.  I also cut out vintage roses and added them to the photo.  The flowers were compressed into the photo and here is the finished pillow design.
