Gothic Style Black Rose Bedroom Ideas

The Gothic subculture is dark, black and purple being prominent colors however it is also elegant with strong ties to Victorian and romance.

Know that when it comes to creating an elegant Gothic-style guest bedroom for a friend, I needed to research the look so that I could learn more. I also had to go to my friend's Facebook page to learn about her likes.

When I felt comfortable I created a Gothic-style bedroom set for my friend that features a Victorian-inspired black rose wallpaper, a black rose lamp, round pillows, and also a regal black tufted sofa, ornate crystal chandelier, and black and white high back bed with black pillows.

Gothic black rose guest bedroom set that I created for a friend.

The bed that I featured in the set I found at outthereinteriors.com the stripes make the bed frame interesting and you can change the look of the bed with a black on a black brocade duvet cover.  Normally you see the black Victorian four-poster bed, or an iron bed but I thought I would add a unique bed style to the set.

Below find a few black rose gothic style home decorations that I created at my Zazzle store.  Use these products in your bedroom or another living space.  Click the text below the image to view it at my store.  Note the rose pillow with urn and filigree first pillow below it was created from a photograph of Victorian wallpaper its not perfect as the wallpaper had aged. I personally like the "old" look but if you want perfection then this elegant vintage rose pillow is not for you.

Updating Home with Replacement Windows

My home is 87 years old and the 21 lead glass with rope pulley system windows have never been repaired but instead sealed so that they cannot open. We have storm windows however the home is still drafty.

Husband and I decided it would be in our best interest to replace 9 of the windows because it would be better insulation and also allow us to have cross ventilation. I love the historic windows due to their charm but they are cosmetic only as they do not function and they are not insulated.
Pella replacement windows found on lowes.com

Finding Replacement Windows

The first thing that we did was take the measurements for the windows we were replacing and then we shopped online to get an idea as to what was available and the costs.

Where to Shop for Replacement Windows Online

homedepot.com
searshomeservice.com
lowes.com
homeadvisor.com (reviews and ratings for window contractors)

Our online search provided us with an estimate for the costs, and we were able to look at a variety of window brands and styles.  We picked out what we liked online and then went to our local Lowe's store.

We ended up buying Pella vinyl windows because we liked that they were
quality made and there is a guarantee that they will reduce our heating and air conditioning energy costs and also keep us warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

In comparison to the other windows that we looked at, both my husband and I liked Pella window designs and think that they will improve our comfort by putting a stop to drafts and will make our kitchen, dining room and bedroom plus make our historic home look beautiful.

Add Ambiance with Dale Tiffany Lamp

Recently one of my clients asked me how she could add ambiance to her living room,    My reply was to buy a Dale Tiffany stained glass table lamp, ceiling mounted light and floor lamp.

Here is a Dale Tiffany Stained Glass Buffet Lamp you can see that it is timeless elegance.

Know that a stained glass lamp shade is made up of hundreds of multiple colors and cut glass pieces that are welded together. Tiffany lamp shades are elaborate works of art that will accent a formal living room beautifully.
Of course, the benefit from this multiple pieced glass shade is when you turn the light on. The entire room comes to life as it is filled with a cozy glow that is projected from the shade. Dale Tiffany table lamps will provide the ambiance that is eye appealing, colorful and inviting.

Buying Tips:

  1. Choose a lampshade that will complement the color theme of your room.
  2. There are many color themes available and I recommend buying seasonal lamps.
  3. Coordinate your seasonal decorations with the stained glass table lamp.
  4. Dale Tiffany is renowned for quality heirloom stained glass lamps that are handmade.

Decorating with Color: Blue and White

When it comes to decorating for the warm season I like to create a space that both my husband and I will enjoy.  The interior space should be eye-appealing and also have a cool feeling as well as inviting to family and guests.  Blue is a cool color and white is crisp clean and refreshing thus complimenting the blue.  Whenever I am working in the garden and then come indoors to a blue room that is accented with white I naturally feel cooler.

The home sets that are viewed below were created to show my customers how to decorate with the color blue.  View my blue home decor designs here

Many people like the color blue but I find that men really like this color. Maybe it is due to the baby boys nursery being decorated with the color blue? Not certain but when it comes to decorating a masculine home I have found that most men like the color blue.

Another color that coordinates well with blue is yellow. Yellow is a cheerful color and is a nice accent. When it comes to decorating a blue and white room I will add splashes of yellow color, enough to be eye-appealing but this color should not overtake the blue or white colors.

Love Zazzle Custom Fabrics for Crafts

Zazzle.com came out with a fabric design tool that allows you to create craft fabrics from your photographs. Know that this is fantastic, especially if you want to coordinate fabric with your room theme.  If you want to sew up some throw pillows from the photo of your wildflower garden you can make the custom fabric by using the design tool at Zazzle
I love to sew and create home decorations.  So these craft fabrics are a must have as far as I am concerned.   I have not been this excited for a really long time.

Before Zazzle fabrics, I had to drive two hours to a city to shop for my upholstery and craft fabrics and hated commuting on the two-lane highways to get to my destination.  So I stopped sewing and being creative.  But not anymore because Zazzle has made it possible for me to get exactly what I want and I can shop in the comfort of my home.

Zombie Gifts and Home Decorating Ideas

This year I thought I would decorate my husbands man cave with a few zombie products and also pick up some walking dead and Daryl Dixon-shirts. I think it would be fun to invite a few fans over to watch the premiere show for the 2015 season by hosting a walking dead party.

Personally I do not think we need to go “all out” for this party but do think some throw pillows for sofa, blanket throw, posters, coffee mugs and serving plates and bowls for dips would be perfect for a zombie fallout shelter/man cave.  Plus I really like the cardboard life-size cutout of Daryl Dixon to be set up in the room, I think having him in the room will appreciated by all.
This blog post features two Walking Dead sets that I created at polyvore. These sets will inspire you to decorate your home with a zombie theme and they also feature today’s hot selling T-shirts. All are must haves for a Walking Dead premier house party.

Walking Dead Daryl Dixon Gifts by sgolis featuring autumn home decor
I am a walking dead fan and so is my husband. We missed the first three season but then by chance we saw the repeats on AMC and were addicted to the show. How about you? Are you a walking dead fan? If you like the zombie look and would like to create a zombie space in your home then here are few zazzle.com products that I found that are my favorites.  I hope this zombie merchandise inspires you to decorate for the Walking Dead upcoming season.

So get the party started by featuring past seasons Walking Dead episodes in the background.  A great way to build up anticipation for the up and coming episode.  Another fun party activity is to invite your zombie guest to play the Walking dead board game that will test their knowledge of the show.  This trivia board game is a lot of fun, in fact event the kids enjoy it.  Then get a life size poster of Daryl Dixon and photograph your zombie party guests next to him. We have had both men and women get all dreamy eyed over this poster.

Now lets get busy and decorate your home for zombie themed party.

Decorate your walls with zombies and this will create walking dead ambiance.

Fresh Herb Wreath How to and Decor Ideas

It is really cold out today and I am missing my herb garden. I have a few herb plants on a southern windowsill but my indoor garden does not compare to my outdoor garden in the summer. So today I thought if I cannot work outdoors in the garden I am going to make a fresh herb wreath for my kitchen and the aroma from the leaves will be nice.

For this wreath I needed to buy bunches of herbs from the farmers market. I was able to find and buy rosemary, thyme, and sage. These herbs bunches were not inexpensive so I used a bent twig wreath that I had instead of buying one from hobby lobby.
I used 6 eight inch herb stems that were gathered together, I worked the bunch of herbs in-between the bent twig wreath and found I did not need any craft wire to hold them in place.
When all the herbs were attached to the wreath I sprayed then with water to help the herbs to stay fresh. Going forward I will mist the herbs on the wreath daily and they should keep for several weeks. Know that this is an easy craft with big results because the fragrance of the herbs really makes the kitchen have a nice scent.

Here is a video that will show you how to make a fresh lavender wreath.  Wonderfully fragrant for kitchen, bedroom, or entrance to your home.

Red and Black Valentine's Day Decorating Ideas

Today I am inspired to decorate my bedroom for Valentine's Day because hubby and I will be staying home this year and I would like to create a red color theme with plenty of hearts and love sayings for the perfect little love nest for the two of us.

So I headed over to my Zazzle gallery and created some modern red locking hearts with black background designs; throw pillow, candy tins, lamps, blanket throw, T-shirt for me and for the wall so heart-shaped decals with cute classic Valentine's day sayings.

I know it is corny but this stuff makes me smile and since hubby and I have been working and have opposite hours I am thinking to stay home on Valentines Day would be a nice way to reconnect and a bedroom that is decorated with a "love to love you" or "I love you more" theme would be a good way to celebrate  Valentine's Day.

So I designed a variety of pillows sizes so I could pile them on the bed, and then I added home accessories to pop up the room and add to the ambiance.

Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?

Here is a bedroom set that created to show my clients how to decorate for Valentines' Day.  This set will hopefully inspire you to decorate.

Here are a few of the products that I used to create this Valentine's Day set, click on the link to view in high resolution.
